Despite the robustness of its devices and sophistication of its operating system, a lot of users have been staying away from BlackBerry phones. They have one big grouse: the platform does not give access to most of the apps that people like to have on their smartphones these days like Instagram, Zite and the Chrome browser.

But with its new OS upgrade BlackBerry OS 10.2.1, the Canadian smartphone company has opened up its OS to Android apps. No users still can’t go to Google Play and download apps, but a lot of third party apps stores work quite well on the new breed of BlackBerry devices. In fact, BlackBerry has just announced that the next version of its OS will have native access to the Amazon App store. The OS 10.3 version is expected to be available towards the end of the year.
We have written about the new features on BlackBerry 10.2.1.  So this time we decided to check out how easy it is to install and run Android apps on a BlackBerry Z30.
There are many options to side-load Android apps on a BlackBerry. Here we look at three and tell you what works best.

OPTION 1: The easiest way is to mail yourself an APK, which can then be downloaded and installed. However, this method strangely had a poor success rate. Worked for me with only one of the five apps I tried.

OPTION 2: Snap, is an app that brings Google Play to a BlackBerry and should hence be the easiest, at least on paper. But we could not get to load the app despite our best attempts.

                
OPTION 3: We then tried a third party app store called APK Train on the browser. This was the closest one could get to Google Play on the BlackBerry. The app store is clean and easy to use. It has a top apps section as well as a search option. Within minutes I had all the apps I had running on my Android device on the Z30.

The apps downloaded and installed within seconds. Of the dozen-odd apps that I downloaded, I could not get the Google Chrome browser to load. It kept crashing, as if reminding us that it was not made for this platform.

OTHER OPTIONS: You can check out other third party app stores like Amazon to see if it works for you. If it does not, there is always option 3 to fall back on. The good thing here is that there is at least one option that works seamlessly.

PROBLEMS: As these apps are not made for a device that lacks a back and home button, navigation can be a problem. We faced issues with the Zite app as it was quite tough to go one

You don't have to be logged in to Facebook to get the latest updates from friends. Email notifications allow you to know when people interact with you on the site, whether through Wall posts, comments, tagged photos or friend requests. Similar to the notifications you see in the lower right hand corner on Facebook, email notifications let you know what's happening even when you aren't logged in.

You can manage email notifications by selecting the "Settings" link in the upper right hand corner of any page. From the Notifications tab, you can choose which actions you want to generate emails. For example, if you want to be notified by email each time someone writes on your Wall or receive weekly email digests about your friends' upcoming birthdays, just check the boxes next to these options. If you'd rather not be notified when people poke you or comment on your photos, just leave those boxes unchecked.

To change the email address associated with your account, select the "Settings" tab. You'll then see your current email address and can select "change" to add or delete addresses. Your Facebook email notifications will only be sent to the address you designate as your "Contact Email," so also be sure this information is accurate.

To write successful advertisement content is to catch the attention of the customer at first sight as they flicker though the brochures and fliers like they flip through a magazine and not how they will read books with concentration. Its better if they aren’t connected, because it won’t require the reader to go back to a previous chunk in order to understand the present chunk he is reading. This works quite well when there are pictures in the advertisement and the chunk illustrates the picture. The two-dimensional picture is speechless unless some well-chosen words talks about it and motivates the customers. Obviously, while chucking, sub-headings can be used to let out critical information. Another point to be considered is the product or company about which the content is based on. Suppose if the brochure is related to a corporate, the style of writing should be formal. 

Spelling mistakes should be avoided to the maximum extent. They reflect poor quality and bring bad reputation to the client. The design should speak clearly and loudly about the organization being discussed. Unclear, cluttered and illogical information creates an illusion that the company also has the same characteristics. Catalogues are the only source of advertisement for some businesses, because of low investments. Such kind of business catalogues won't require much writing, just product description will do. Instead one can work on the font sizes, colors, etc.

The next step should be writing information about contacts so as to buy the product; detailed forms are big turn-off. Contact information, postal address and website URL should be clearly specified. Also include whether the business accepts cash, check or credit card. Another thing to be taken care of is the contact information, which is usually written on the forms, which have to be mailed. It is better to write them on the advertisement also so that the customers can save it for future reference.

After the final content is written, it’s the time for organizing it. Depending on the demand of the products, arrange them in hierarchy, especially when designing a catalogue because each of the products should get the consideration and attention they deserve. 

It is a good habit to write down procedures, which have been applied to every kind of advertisements written. All account access starts the same way, by going to the Gmail sign in page at: https://mail.google.com/. If you're trying to recover access to an account, you click the "Can't access your account?" link at the bottom.  Note that the link may also simple be "Help".

This starts the recovery process with the initial choices where you select the type of problem you are having.

The choice you make starts you down one of several branches towards account recovery.

• I don't know my password
  
  If you have forgotten your password this is the path you will use. One example of how this could happen is if a browser is configured to automatically fill in the login details and for some reason the information is lost. This path may not work for a compromised account as hackers will often change the recovery details to try and prevent the original owner from regaining access to the account.  Enter your account name and click Continue
  
  
  
  
  Depending on what recovery options were configured for the account, several options may appear. Select the one you wish to use and click Continue.
  
  
  
  
  Be aware that many of the paths below will require solving a Captcha verification before proceeding. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, so just enter the letters and click Continue.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  • Get a verification code on my phone
    
    The option most preferred by Google is for them to send you a verification code to a pre-configured mobile device. When this option is selected a choice of receiving the code by SMS message or voice is given. Make the selection and click Continue.
    
    
    
    
    Do not leave the recovery process until you receive the code. The code will be received on the configured mobile device and should be entered on the next screen that will be presented.
    
    
    
    
    Once the code is entered, the next screen will allow the creation of a new password for the account.
    
    
    
    
    
  
  
  • Confirm access to my recovery email
    
    This option is perhaps the simplest as it just sends an e-mail to a pre-configured recovery e-mail address allowing one to reset the account password. Select the option and click Continue.
    
    
    
    
    There will be a notification that a password reset was sent to your pre-configured recovery e-mail address.
    
    
    
    When received, the e-mail will look similar to this.
    
    
    
    
    Click the enclosed link and follow the instructions to create a new password.
    
    
    
  
  
  • Answer my security question
    
    Another choice may be to answer a pre-configured secret (security) question. This is a legacy recovery method as new accounts no longer provide this option. Note that this option will only appear if you have not attempted to sign in the account within the last 24 hours. If you wish to use this recovery option (perhaps because it is the only one you have set up) you will need to back off and leave the account alone for at least that period of time to have this option offered to you.
    
    
    
    
    If answered correctly the next screen will allow the creation of a new password for the account.
    
    
    
    
    
  
  
  • Verify your identity - The Account Recovery Form
    
    It's possible that none of the above options will work. Perhaps the settings were changed by a hacker who compromised the account. Perhaps they were never configured, or the information has gone out-of-date (the recovery address no longer exists or you have changed your mobile number). In this case, the final option is the Account Recovery Form which is accessed by the link at the bottom: "Verify your identity".
    
    Details of this process appear below.
    
    
    
    This will lead to a series of screens that ask a number of details about the account which if answered correctly will prove ownership and allow the password to be reset. The first two screen look similar to the following.
    
    
    
    
    
    
    
    Once the form as been submitted there will be a confirmation screen.
    
    
    
    
    There are three possible results.
    
    
    1. Success - a link will be provided to reset the password
       

       Congratulations...

• I don't know my username
  
  This is the selection to use if you have forgotten the username for the account. This can also sometimes happen if a browser or mobile device is configured to automatically sign in every time, or for an account that is rarely used. But this will only work if a recovery e-mail address was previously configured for the account.
  
  


• Forgot your username
  
  You need to know the recovery address you used for this account, and that address should be entered at this point. There will also be a Captcha to solve before submitting the request.
  
  
  
  If the information is correctly entered above, the next screen will confirm that an e-mail was sent to the recovery address with a list of all Google usernames associated with that e-mail.
  
  
  
  
  When received, the e-mail will look something like this, and may contain a list of multiple e-mail addresses. Once you know the username, you may have to return to the start of the recovery flow to recover the password if that was also forgotten.
  
  
  


• I'm having other problems signing in
  
  This is a catch-all for any problem not covered by the above choices (although it includes the above also). Enter the e-mail address and click Continue.
  
  
  
  
  You will be directed to the following help page which presents a list of options each of which expands into more options and directs you to a specific solution. A few of the options (I forgot my password, or I forgot my username) will direct you back to the above page for recovery.

• Special situations
  
  There are a couple special cases that deviate from the above recovery flow.  So if these cases apply, be aware that it will change what is seen during process.
  


• Two-step verification
  
  Accounts that have two-step verification enabled will require a verification code at some point during the recovery process. If an access code can not be obtained for any reason, one of the alternate options must be selected, which will probably require the use of the Account Recovery Form to regain access.
  
  The final option ("I didn't enable 2-step verification") can happen if an account is compromised and the hacker enables two-step verification in an attempt to lock-out the rightful owner. Selecting that option will lead to the Account Recovery Form to recover from this case.
  
  
  
  
  If the first option above is selected and Continue is clicked, a code will be received on the designated mobile device which is entered on the next screen.
  
  
  


• Google Apps accounts
  
  Google Apps accounts (those not ending in @gmail.com) can not be recovered using the standard Gmail recovery procedures. One must contact the Google Apps administrator who can reset the password to regain access.

Additional Recovery Information

Doing a password reset is the easiest way to regain access to an account. But it can fail if you forgot your secret question, if the recover e-mail address is no longer valid, or it the account was compromised and that information changed.

The Account Recovery Form is the alternative method. It is important that you complete as much of the form as possible, and that the information be as accurate as you can make it. If the form is rejected you can try submitting it again. You can re-submit it as many times as you want, but always wait for a reply to each submission before submitting again. If you don’t receive a reply, check your spam/junk folder (especially if it’s a non-Gmail account).

It’s very important that as you repeatedly submit the Account Recovery Form that you fill in more of the blanks with more accurate information. There is some threshold of correct information you need to prove ownership, so a rejection means you need to supply more. Submitting the same form with no additional information multiple times does not help.

While this system works for many people, there are some cases where it can be very frustrating. But don’t give up. There’s nothing you can do (like deleting the account) until you re-gain access to it and since Google does not offer live one on one support for the free Gmail product directly these are your options.

Also realize that the more complicated account recover process (that very few people need to use) is one of the trade-offs for not being forced to provide a lot of personal information when you create the account (that everyone has to do). Many people prefer this for privacy reasons.

Hints for successful account recovery

• It’s not about the number of times you submit the Account Recovery Form, it’s about providing more and better answers with each attempt. If your submission is rejected, you must work harder to provide more answers, and make the answers more accurate in subsequent submissions.
• Wait for a response before each new submission (be sure to check Spam). Responses could be delayed as much as 24 hours but you should wait a full 48 hours before submitting another form.
• If you are not receiving a response, check your Spam or Junk folder on the account you specified for replies. Also double (triple) check that you correctly spelled the e-mail account name.
• Duplicate submissions, or submissions without waiting for a reply can trigger a submission lock forcing you to wait a few days to try again.
• Make your best guess on every field of the form. You never know what will help.

There may be one other option for simple password recovery if your account wasn’t compromised and you simply forgot your password. If you have your browser setup to remember your account information you may be able to view your saved password. In Firefox, you can use: Tools->Options, Security, Saved Password, Show Passwords. If you use another browser, then (install and) open Firefox, use File->Import to import your settings and then check to see if the saved password is accessible. Again, this only works for people who forgot their password due to relying on the browser’s auto-fill function, but if it applies it might be an easier than the above procedures.

The same is true of wireless security cameras. Check on your phone and camera, if it's 900Mhz then it's fine. If it says 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz then it could be the cause of your slow connection speed while they're in use.

   Call your Internet service provider (ISP). Sometimes you just have bad service. They can usually tell if your connection is substandard without having a technician come to your home. Just be nice and ask.

   Upgrade your computer. If your computer is slow, it doesn't matter how fast your Internet connection is, the whole thing will just seem slow. You can only access the Internet as fast as your PC will allow you to.

   Upgrade your router/firewall equipment. Specifically, look into any speed specifications (many older routers are not capable of transmitting to/from the internet faster than 10 Mbps, even though the local ports transmit in 100 Mbps). Also, older routers may be underpowered, so that even though the theoretical speed is 10 Mbps, the processor on the router is too weak to reach maximum speed.

   Upgrade your router firmware. Check the manufacturer's web site for firmware downloads for your router. Compare this with your version, and upgrade if necessary. Most routers have web interfaces for managing this, check for any labels on your router specifying default address, username and password.

    Replace your old cable modem. Any solid-state electronics will degrade over time due to accumulated heat damage. Your broadband modem will have a harder and harder time 'concentrating' on maintaining a good connection as it gets older (signal to noise ratios will go down, and the number of resend requests for the same packet will go up). An after-market cable modem as opposed to a cable-company modem will frequently offer a better connection.

    Often your connection speed is slow because other programs are using it. To test if other programs, such as anti-virus and other updates, are accessing the Internet without your knowing, Click Start, Click Run. Type "cmd" (without quotes). Type "netstat -b 5 > activity.txt". After a minute or so, hold down Ctrl and press C. This has created a file with a list of all programs using your Internet connection. Type activity.txt to open the file and view the program list.

    Try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete simultaneously and open up the Task Manager. Go to the process menu and close those processes that may be stealing your valuable bandwidth. (NOTE: Closing processes with unknown filenames may cause known programs to not function properly). There is a column with the User Name, and if that is "System", you'd better leave it alone until you stop using the program that needs it. But if the User is your own login name, then it is not crucial to the operating system, but may be needed by other programs, however you may experiment. Often the system will not allow closing of -- or will reopen -- needed system programs.

    After you have tried some of this try your connection again and see if it's running any faster. If it is better you may need to close those extras each time you restart your system until you set the startup list to not open them anymore.

    Check to see somebody else is using the internet on your home network. If somebody is downloading a lot of media from the internet, such as watching video or downloading large files, the host computer is using a lot of bandwidth and the other computers are using the remaining bandwidth.

    If you are using satelite internet, your internet connection might be altered because of wind (vibrations) and electrical activity in/among clouds, heavy snow, or rain and lightning, static, or other electrical interference.

Restore Previous Versions of Deleted Pictures on Your Computer

   Pull up the Start Menu and select "Computer" to locate the folder that contained the picture files you want to recover. Be sure that it is the folder where the files were actually saved, rather than a library.

   Right-click on the designated folder and, in the pop-up menu, select "Restore previous versions." If your files were in a folder located in a drive, such as C:\, then select "Restore previous versions" by right clicking on that particular drive.

   Review the list of previous versions of the folder or files within this folder/drive. Determine the most recent previous version of the picture files, or the folder containing them, that you want to restore and double-click on it.

   Move the deleted picture files or folder containing them to a new location on your computer, by clicking and dragging them to that location in the access menu on the left side of the "Computer" window. Ideal locations for the new save might be a new folder, the desktop or an external hard drive.
